The Ontario Dental Association was founded in 1867. There have been 134 Presidents.
Election of Board Members and Executives
As a matter of procedure, at the General Council Meeting held in the spring and fall, ODA General Councillors select ODA Board members. The Board, in turn, elects the Vice-President from among its members.
The Vice-President succeeds to the office of President-Elect in the year following their election. The President-Elect succeeds to the office of President. The President succeeds to the office of immediate Past-President.
The President and President-Elect, along with the Past-President, will be among the spokespeople on important topics for the ODA.

Past Presidents of the Ontario Dental Association
Dr. Harry Höediono, President, ODA
Dr. Harry Höediono is President of the Ontario Dental Association for the 2011-12 membership year.
Dr. Höediono’s involvement in organized dentistry began at the local level when he joined the executive of the Waterloo-Wellington Dental Society in 1994. He has held all executive positions, including President in 2000. He served as ODA Councillor from 1999 to 2005.
He is a Fellow of the International College of Dentists, the Academy of Dentistry International, the Pierre Fauchard Academy, and the American College of Dentists.
An active member in his community, Dr. Höediono is an organizer with the Halton Region Volunteer Earth Day, a past board member of the Kitchener-Waterloo Gymnastics Club, and a member of the Kitchener-Waterloo Gyro Club. He is a support dentist for Children of Chernobyl, providing dentistry to children ravaged by war, famine or other catastrophes. A passionate rock climber, instructor and examiner, Dr. Höediono has contributed to numerous rock climbing guides, manuals and magazines.
For his outstanding service and contribution to the dental profession, Dr. Höediono has been honoured with the ODA Award of Merit, the ODA Chair’s Pin, the Component Society President’s Plaque, and the ODA Committee Service and Governance Leadership Awards.
He is a graduate of the University of Toronto (1990) and is in general private practice with his wife, Dr. Helen de Man, in Kitchener.

Dr. Lynn Tomkins, Past-President, ODA
Dr. Lynn Tomkins is the Immediate Past-President of the Ontario Dental Association for the 2011-12 membership year.
A 1981 Honours graduate of the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Dentistry, Dr. Tomkins maintains a general private practice in Toronto with her husband and partner, Dr. Daniel Kmiecik.
She also teaches as an Associate in Dentistry and Clinical Instructor in the Department of Oral Diagnosis and Oral Medicine at the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Dentistry. In 2006, the University of Toronto honoured Dr. Tomkins with the Dr. A. Bruce Hord Master Teaching Award for excellence in clinical teaching and for making a significant contribution to the students’ educational experience. She has received numerous other awards from the Toronto Central Dental Society, the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario, the Canadian Dental Association, the Ontario Dental Association (ODA), and the University of Toronto, as well as a number of academic awards throughout her education.
In addition to her service with the ODA, Dr. Tomkins has held all executive positions within the Toronto Central Dental Society. She also served at the national level. As Student Governor, she was the first woman to serve on the Canadian Dental Association’s Board of Governors. Dr. Tomkins currently sits on the Canadian Dental Association's General Assembly.
Dr. Tomkins holds memberships in the Canadian Dental Association, the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honour Dental Society, the American Dental Association, the Pierre Fauchard Academy, the International College of Dentists, the Anderson Study Club and the Academy of Dentistry International.
In November 2010, Dr. Tomkins was a recipient of one of the prestigious 2010 Canada's Most Powerful Women: Top 100™ Awards, in the KPMG Professionals award category.

Dr. Arthur Worth, President-Elect, ODA
Dr. Arthur Worth is President-Elect of the Ontario Dental Association for the 2011-12 membership year.
Dr. Worth is a graduate of both the University of Toronto’s Scarborough College where he obtained his B.Sc. and graduated with Honours, and the University of Western Ontario’s Faculty of Dentistry (1978) where he was honoured with the Senior Award in Oral Surgery. He completed a General Dental Internship at University Hospital in London, Ontario in 1979.
He has an extensive background with the Kent County Dental Society serving as Secretary and Treasurer, and has been a Southwestern Regional Political Contact Dentist representing Kent since 1992. He served on the ODA Board of Governors from 1991 to 1995 and on the ODA General Council in 1996.
Dr. Worth has co-authored several clinical articles published in the Canadian Journal of Anaesthesiology and the American Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
He is a Fellow of the Academy of Dentistry International, the Pierre Fauchard Academy and the International College of Dentists.
Dr. Worth maintains a general private practice with an emphasis on orthodontics and oral surgery in the rural village of Thamesville, Ontario.
