Sudbury, ON – A donation from Ontario dentists to the Sudbury Regional Cancer Program at HRSRH means more patients have timely access to the dental oncology department.

“Offering timely care for our cancer patients is imperative,”   says Dr. Deborah Saunders, head of Dental Oncology at HRSRH.  “We know that early detection and access to cancer care in the long run means better survival rates and quality of life for our patients - this money will help us continue this important work.  We are thankful to receive the donation, and proud to put the dollars to work here for the patients in the north.”

The Dental Oncology Unit at HRSRH focuses on 3 programs including:
  • Oral screening,
  • dental treatment for cancer patients, and
  • dental rehabilitation.

“Ontario dentists are proud to support their community and this important project with this $20,000 donation,” says ODA Board member Dr. Isabel Teijeiro.  “Clearly the region depends on these hard working dentists and this clinic for their health and wellness - we were honored to help.“

The dental oncology unit serves an area of 300,000 square kilometers and a population of over 650,000 people.

“We are grateful for the opportunity to increase and enhance the service and comfort we can provide for our patients,” says Dr. Denis Roy, HRSRH President and CEO.

The money donated by Ontario dentists was administered by the Dentistry Canada Fund.
