The ODA is pleased to present the following seminar:
Medical Emergencies in the Dental Office: Are You Ready
Category 1 – 6 CE Credits
Speakers: Dr. Peter Nkansah
Description:
This interactive session will review common and/or important medical emergencies in the dental office. Our discussion will range from common causes of medical issues to uncommon threats to patient safety to how to organize your emergency kits. Real-life scenarios will be used for clinical context. Because proper management of urgencies and emergencies requires proper preparation, we will spend time discussing how to prepare our office (i.e., drugs and equipment) and how to prepare our team for the statistically inevitable. Some statistics suggest that dental practices encounter a medical emergency once every 18 months. Are you ready?
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- To review the incidence and etiology of common medical emergencies.
- To refine medical history reviews and patient assessment.
- To reliably recognize and diagnose medical emergencies.
- To improve team protocols in managing medical emergencies in the office.
- To review medical emergency drugs and equipment, including their proper use and drug dosages.
- To establish management algorithms for in-office medical emergencies.
