Description
Lambton Public Health is seeking a dentist to provide public health consultation services. In this unique role, you will combine clinical expertise with population-based strategies to promote oral health equity, prevent dental diseases, and advance access to care. Services may be provided remotely through email consultation, telephone, video conference, and written reports. Ability to attend in-person meetings or presentations in Point Edward, Ontario is an asset.
Responsibilities:
- Adjudicate Ontario Works (OW) dental benefit claims.
- Consult on requirements, eligibility, and coordination of benefits for publicly funded dental care programs, including but not limited to, Healthy Smiles Ontario (HSO), Ontario Seniors Dental Care Program (OSDCP), and Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP).
- Provide guidance and recommendations related to preventive dental clinical services policies, procedures, and delivery models; infection prevention and control practices; and school screening protocols.
- Review oral health promotion educational resources and materials.
- Consult on relationships and engagement with local dental professionals and organizations, dental regulatory bodies, and professional associations.
- Review and interpret oral health surveillance data and population oral health indicators.
- Provide guidance on oral health priority settings, program planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Provide consultation for practice and guidance on continuing education and professional development needs of Lambton Public Health dental staff, which include Registered Dental Hygienist and Certified Dental Assistant professionals.
Qualifications
- Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS), Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD), or equivalent from an accredited university recognized by the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario (RCDSO).
- Fellowship in Dental Public Health is considered an asset.
- Active license with the RCDSO and in good standing with the college.
- Minimum of three years dentistry experience required.
- Commit to the Canadian Dental Association’s Principles of Ethics.
Other Requirements:
- Familiarity with publicly funded dental programs, including but not limited to: Healthy Smiles Ontario (HSO), the Ontario Seniors Dental Care Plan (OSDCP), Ontario Works (OW) Benefits, and the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP).
- Available to provide services for up to two hours per week over forty-eight weeks per year, subject to the needs of Lambton Public Health.
- Ability to respond to routine consultation requests within two business days and urgent requests within one business day.
